So I was very surprised to find three written by the people at BaxBex Software. It is very rare to find more than one excellent app written by the same developer. Collectively they would be a very large post and I didn't think it would be reasonable for anyone to read thru two pages to find out about three finds.īut this single post contains three more finds. I know that many if not most of you would never dream of giving up the mouse and that my remarks probably irk you. It's just a nice simple app that does the job and never gives you any grief. "Run It" never takes up any space on your desktop as I mentioned earlier. The nice things about "Run It" are that you can pick from several spots on the desktop or use a hotkey to bring up the initial menu. Bleh!Īs an aside, I always get a laugh from developers who claim their system of hierarchical swing out menus is more advanced than a simple menu. Then you have to bring up a menu or hierarchical set of swing out menus and play hide and seek with the app you want to launch. The things I despise about almost all desktop launchers is that first of all you have to reach for the mouse and swing it over to some fixed and extreme spot on the display (like the system tray or the start button or close to the start button etc.). It's true that I much prefer a hotkey manager as being much faster to use (almost instantaneous) and much more flexible and powerful than a mouse-based program launcher.īut I need a Launcher for emergencies (like when I'm working on my Hotkey Manager - JDN Hotkeys). The main reason I wish to recommend "Tray Wizard' is that it offers a variety of ways to deal with minimized windows and the difference in file size between 450K and 20K is not a good reason to pass this one by. It also includes a facility for launching programs from the system tray but I very much prefer another freeware app called "Run It" for that.

You can left click to bring up the regular left click menu or right click to bring up the right click menu. It has a much nicer approach when dealing with minimized icons. The functions supporting the tray are especially good as it gives you the choice between placing minimzed windows on the taskbar, in the system tray individually, in the system tray collectively or essentially hiding the windows until you want them back.

But it's also quite limited compared to Tray Wizard. That's very valuable for a file that only occupies 20K. If you right-click on the minimize button of an open window, the window is minimized to the system tray instead of the task bar. It's a simple utility that serves a great function.
